LAW FIRM AWARD

The Law Firm Award will recognize and applaud the law firm that best exemplifies leadership in the following areas in its operations in Alberta:

  • The law firm fosters the inclusion of female lawyers, as demonstrated by its internal policies and procedures and how they are implemented (including without limitation, the firm’s recruiting strategies, mentoring and sponsorship programs, retention strategy, flexible working hours, pay equity policy [if any], conditions and promotions);
  • The law firm achieves the promotion of female lawyers into senior positions and the hiring of female students and lawyers for future leadership roles;
  • The law firm supports women in both the legal and business communities (including support and sponsorship of organizations which foster the inclusion of female lawyers, contributes to mentoring female law students and junior lawyers, is a leader in diversity initiatives, and is a positive role model in fostering the inclusion of female lawyers at other firms in Alberta).

 

LEADERSHIP IN THE PROFESSION (PRIVATE PRACTICE)

This award will recognize and applaud a lawyer in private practice who has shown extraordinary leadership in one or more of several areas including: legal skills and capabilities, contribution to legal education and/or scholarship, mentoring of law students and junior lawyers, demonstrated leadership in law and diversity initiatives, and a commitment to being a positive role model for other lawyers.

LEADERSHIP IN THE PROFESSION (IN-HOUSE/GOVERNMENT)

This award will recognize and applaud a lawyer working as in-house counsel or in government who has shown extraordinary leadership in one or more of several areas including: legal skills and capabilities, contribution to legal education and/or scholarship, mentoring of law students and junior lawyers, demonstrated leadership in law and diversity initiatives, and a commitment to being a positive role model for other lawyers.

LEADERSHIP IN THE PROFESSION (BROADER ROLES)

This award will recognize and applaud a lawyer who applies her skills as a leader in a broader context, not covered by other award categories. This could include lawyers active in an academic setting, a non-profit group, an organization that governs or promotes the legal profession, or in any other position not covered by another Leadership in the Profession award, who has shown extraordinary leadership in one or more of several areas including: legal skills and capabilities, contribution to legal education and/or scholarship, mentoring of law students and junior lawyers, demonstrated leadership in law and diversity initiatives, and a commitment to being a positive role model for other lawyers.

LEADERSHIP IN THE COMMUNITY

This award will celebrate the outstanding contributions of a lawyer within her community through Pro Bono legal services or service to other community organizations. The recipient will have demonstrated leadership in these areas and a commitment to being a positive role model for the community.

TOMORROW’S LEADER

This award will encourage and recognize the accomplishments of a lawyer who was first called to the Bar not more than 10 years prior to the year in which the award is received. The recipient of the award will have demonstrated significant growth, development and initiative throughout her first years of practice, and show great promise for superior legal capability and leadership potential through her actions and attitude.
